چکیده
Objective In Florida, pre-approval of prophylactic treatment by insurance companies is tied to seasonality. Previous analyses determined that Florida’s syndromic surveillance system (Electronic Surveillance System for the Early Notification of Community-based Epidemics [ESSENCE-FL]) was capable of monitoring Florida’s statewide RSV seasonality. This analysis aims to determine if ESSENCE-FL can also be used to describe RSV and RSV-associated hospitalizations in children < 5 years by region and season.

Relationship between the population incidence of febrile convulsions in young children in Sydney, Australia and seasonal epidemics of influenza and respiratory syncytial virus, 2003-2010: a time series analysis
BACKGROUND In 2010, intense focus was brought to bear on febrile convulsions in Australian children particularly in relation to influenza vaccination. Febrile convulsions are relatively common in infants and can lead to hospital admission and severe outcomes. We aimed to examine the relationships between the population incidence of febrile convulsions and influenza and respiratory syncytial vir...

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of lower respiratory tract infection in young children worldwide (1-3). In the United States, RSV infection results in >57,000 hospitalizations and 2 million outpatient visits each year among children aged <5 years (3). Recent studies have highlighted the importance of RSV in adults as well as children (4). CDC reported RSV seasonality nation...
متن کاملMonitoring the Impact of Influenza by Age: Emergency Department Fever and Respiratory Complaint Surveillance in New York City
BACKGROUND The importance of understanding age when estimating the impact of influenza on hospitalizations and deaths has been well described, yet existing surveillance systems have not made adequate use of age-specific data. Monitoring influenza-related morbidity using electronic health data may provide timely and detailed insight into the age-specific course, impact and epidemiology of season...
